BWSS provides education, advocacy and support services to assist all battered women in its aim to work towards the elimination of violence and to work from a feminist perspective that promotes equality for all women.

Canadian Association of Sexual Assault Centres (CASAC)

CASAC is a Pan Canadian group of sexual assault centres who have come together to implement the legal, social and attitudinal changes necessary to prevent, and ultimately eradicate, rape and sexual assault. As feminists, they recognize that violence against women is one of the strongest indicators of prevailing societal attitudes towards women. The intent of the Canadian Association is to act as a force for social change regarding violence against women at the individual, the institutional and the political level.

Crime Victim’s Assistance Program (VictimLink BC)

The Crime Victim Assistance Program assists victims of violent offences, their immediate family members and some witnesses in coping with the effects of the offence by providing benefits to help offset their financial costs and assist in their recovery.

VictimLink BC provides information and referral services for victims of family and sexual violence and all other crimes. VictimLink BC is toll-free, province-wide, and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Ending Violence Association of BC (EVA)

EVA’s Community Based Victim Services Programs provide crucial emotional support, information, referrals, justice system support and liaison services for survivors of sexual assault, violence in relationships and violence against children and youth. These programs also work to ensure that a coordinated response is in place in their community. Some specialized programs provide support to survivors of violence who have specific needs, such as adult male survivors and survivors from Indigenous and multicultural communities.

EVA’s Stopping the Violence Counselling Programs provide essential counselling and support (including information, referrals and in some cases, system liaison services) for women who have experienced sexual assault, violence in relationships, and/or childhood abuse.

EVA’s Stopping the Violence and Multicultural Outreach Programs respond to the needs of adult women and their dependent children who have experienced or are at risk of violence. Programs support women to identify and access the services they need. They provide counselling, referral to other community services and assistance with systems such as child protection and family court. They also work to ensure that a coordinated response is in place in the community. These programs provide community education to raise awareness about the effect of violence against women and the services needed to address it. As needed, they provide local transportation, accompaniment and advocacy.

EVA’s Sexual Assault / Woman Assault Centres provide crisis intervention, hospital and police accompaniment, counselling and advocacy for women and girls dealing with sexual assault and historical child sexual abuse. While funding was cut to the 23 centres in 2003, many of these programs still exist through Community-Based Victim Services funding and other fund-raised resources.

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program (SANE)

SANE provides a health care environment that aids in minimizing further trauma to sexual assault patients. Provides immediate, compassionate, culturally sensitive treatment by a trained professional nurse examiner; interaction in a neutral manner to help patients make an informed decision, offers comprehensive forensic evaluation (collection of evidence), expert or professional testimony in court trials as a witness, and referrals for follow-up care. Accessed through the following Emergency Departments, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre

Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre works to end all forms of violence against women. Guided by their feminist anti-oppression philosophy they challenge and change thinking, actions, and systems that contribute to violence against women.
